Acadia II 14.0

After much deliberation, the kayak I’ve settled on is the Acadia II 14.0 from Perception Kayaks.  Once I figured out what I wanted in a kayak, I found the list of choices surprisingly short.  Some of my specific criteria to be met:

  • Seat two adults and one child
  • Easily convert to a usable solo kayak
  • Bonus points if a dog can be easily taken along for a ride
  • Reasonably priced

With that in mind, options were few and my decision came down to this boat, and the slightly more expensive Prodigy II 14.5, also from Perception.  In the end, I found a great deal on the Acadia at Outdoorplay.com that pushed me in that direction – they were giving away two free paddles with this!  That, AND they had this kayak in my favorite color, blue.  I was sold.

The Kayak was shipped by UPS freight, and arrived near here after just a few days, surprisingly.  However, I live in a small town in the mountains, and UPS freight only comes up here once a week…so it’s currently sitting in a warehouse.  If my new roof rack arrives in time I’ll go pick up the kayak, otherwise I need to wait for it to be delivered next week.

Just one comment about the color of the kayak – there’s a lot of debate about what colors are ‘safer’ than others (higher visibility).  I found a surprising lack of consensus, so opted for what I like best, and will address visibility with some other measures to be written about later.

Kayak Slow

Kayak Slow.  Relax.  Enjoy the world around us.  That’s what this blog is about.  Plenty of people here in Colorado enjoy whitewater kayaking, but I’ve found information on stillwater kayaking hard to come by.  Lakes, etc.  So, by documenting it here I hope to help others who are interested in a quiet, peaceful time kayaking in Rocky Mountains (and beyond).
